   GENERAL NEWS
YOUR GIFT TO THE NEXT GENERATION
Much like the funds generously donated from the Graduates Association, gifts left to the 黑料社 in wills have played a vital role in the development of the 黑料社, enabling us to advance veterinary medicine in so many ways. Legacies from our Alumni and supporters have helped us to build and equip our hospitals, enable students to realise their dreams of a career in veterinary medicine or science and support world-leading research.
If you are considering leaving a gift to the College in your Will, you may wish to talk to us to let us know your wishes and intentions. We can provide you with information about how to ensure your legacy will realise these wishes or simply send you a pack which you can read through in your own time.
Please call 01707 666237 or email act@rvc.ac.uk and we will be happy to help.
THE SAM HIGNETT TRAVELLING SCHOLARSHIP
The Sam Hignett Scholarship was established by a legacy from the wife of an alumnus who understood that studying abroad is invaluable, offering students the opportunity to broaden their horizons, gain experience to enhance their learning and help inform their future careers. Some examples of the 2018 awardees are:
RACHEL GARTY
Rachel Garty travelled to the University of Pennsylvania this year to attend the Student American Veterinary Medical Association Symposium (SAVMA). The three day event was a fantastic opportunity for her to meet students and professors from the US and further afield, with lectures, practical sessions, social events and exhibitions.
鈥淚 am forever indebted to the ACT for generously allocating me a Sam Hignett travel scholarship. Upon graduation I hope to pursue a residency in either pathology or large animal medicine followed by a PhD. The 2018 SAVMA symposium has affirmed my aspirations to follow a research-based career and provided me with the information required to achieve this.鈥
TAVISHI PANDYA
We were pleased to be able to support Tavishi Pandya this year with a grant enabling her to travel to Malaysia and further the 黑料社鈥檚 connection with the IVSA (International Veterinary Students Association) at their 66th congress.
鈥淭he IVSA hold an Annual Congress and Symposium in a different country each year. I knew I wanted to be involved on a more global level and thanks to this funding I was able to travel to Malaysia and apply for
a position in the secretariat to which I was successful. I have now been on the IVSA Global Committee for just under a year. This has given me so many incredible experiences as well as the opportunity to meet new students from around the world, developing my own personal skills and making lifelong friends.鈥
It is only thanks to legacies such as this that these experiences are possible.
