On the 27th and 28th June, a team of ºÚÁÏÉç Student Ambassadors hosted a stand at the Big Bang Fair South East 2018, on the site of the South of England Showground, Sussex.

The two-day event was attended by over 9000 primary and secondary school children with the aim of inspiring them to pursue a career in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM). The students got the chance to try out their bandaging skills using toy animals as well as quiz the Student Ambassadors on the bones, X-rays and plastinated specimens on display. A keen talking point was the cow magnet . Many were surprised to learn that the magnet can be inserted into a cows stomach to prevent accidentally-ingested metal debris from penetrating the stomach wall and causing inflammation and damage to the heart.

With many sign-ups to the ºÚÁÏÉç Junior (here) and Teen (here) Vet Clubs and teachers enquiring about school visits (here), it was a busy few days but well worth it to inspire the next generation of scientists, vet students and animal enthusiasts!
