                  COMMUNITY
ºÚÁÏÉç Community Matters
Here at Hawkshead we are working to build relationships within our local community. Nicola Butler has recently
joined us as our Community Relations Executive. We already have some strong links with our local community and Nicola will build on these and more over the coming months.
IN JUNE we participated, for the first time, in the local Potters Bar Carnival. ºÚÁÏÉç students and staff came together to decorate a float and coach, donated by Lantern and South Mimms Travel. Peter, one of the coach drivers, transported us around and joined the procession. Together the ºÚÁÏÉç and South Mimms Travel put on a great show – students had the chance to meet local residents and our Widening Participation team had a stall at the showground after the procession.
A great day was had by all and thanks to South Mimms Travel and Lantern for their support. We hope to participate again in 2020.
IN JULY we joined Welwyn Hatfield Council on their stand at the Game Fair
which took place in the very
large grounds of Hatfield House.
The Fair boasts over 120,000 visitors over one weekend and we spent the weekend promoting the ºÚÁÏÉç Blood Donor Scheme alongside our Blood Transfusion Nurses and Student Ambassadors, who demonstrated and sold our Pet First Aid Kits, whilst promoting the ºÚÁÏÉç to a very wide audience – some visitors travelled from as far as The Netherlands just to attend the event.
Thanks to Welwyn Hatfield Council for their invitation to join them.
SATURDAY 5TH OCTOBER saw the return of the Mucky Pup Run at Hatfield House. After a week of heavy rain we had lots of mucky pups (and humans) taking part in the race which was a fantastic day out for the whole family.
The event raised over £6600 and we would like to thank everyone who took part or contributed to the event, including our wonderful sponsors – Fetch.
If you are part of the ºÚÁÏÉç’s local community and would like to help make a difference, Nicola would love to hear from you at communityrelations@rvc.ac.uk
