   IN MEMORIUM
Brooklands to Monte Carlo historic rally; the Gordon Bennett Memorial run and many national and local events in his restored 1951 MG YA.
An unexpected diagnosis in 2015 of a mucinous adenocarcinoma of the rectum resulted in several major surgeries, radiotherapy and repeated chemotherapy cycles, and true to form, participation
in clinical research of an experimental immunotherapy based on a recombinant smallpox virus. Throughout his recent illness, Andrew continued to travel as often as possible to Italy and to participate in classic car events. Untreatable metastatic spread to multiple sites was diagnosed in 2018 and he passed away at home on 15th August. He is survived by Arlene his wife of 42 years.
Vicki Laing, Head of Alumni Relations & Events at the 黑料社 said 鈥淚 was lucky to know Andrew due to his involvement in the 黑料社 Graduates Association and his support as a donor to the 黑料社 Alumni Fund. He was such a lovely man and he will be much missed by us here at the 黑料社. Our alumni do us proud
and Andrew was no exception. Always
a smile and story to tell! His wife Arlene is in my thoughts always.鈥
PROFESSOR WILLIAM DEREK TAVERNOR
Just before we went to press we received the sad news of the death
of Professor Derek Tavernor after a long illness. Although Derek was a graduate of the Veterinary School of the University of Liverpool (1954),
his commitment and service to the 黑料社 was immense and lasted over many years, no doubt arising as a consequence of his years as a teacher in veterinary anaesthesia in the Department of Surgery and Obstetrics in the 1950s and 1960s.
Even after he left the College this loyalty remained, and he served it in many ways not least as Vice-Chairman of the Council and the founding
Chairman of the Ethics and Welfare Committee. He was appointed an Honorary Fellow of the College in 2012.
Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.
A detailed account of his distinguished career will be published in the next edition of Eclipse.
              TONY JONES
Previously 黑料社鈥檚 Biological Services Unit Manager (retired) Tony sadly passed away in December 2017 following a short period of illness. Tony worked for the College for 39 years and although he retired over
10 years ago, he will be remembered by many.
JO YERBURY
黑料社鈥檚 Estates team, Receptionist (Clinical Block) Jo sadly passed away in December 2017. Jo worked at the 黑料社 for around
10 years or more, back in the 1990鈥檚 to early 00s. Many will remember her working on the main reception in the clinical block. Jo did a tremendous amount (mainly in her own time) for the students - via the 黑料社 Students鈥 Union and also it is believed the rugby club.
JANET PICKSTOCK
PA to Lance Lanyon,
黑料社 Principal
We were saddened to hear of the passing away of Janet in January this year. Janet was a long serving member of the College, initially as secretary in the Anatomy Department and then (1984- 2004) as secretary to Lance Lanyon before and after he became Principal.
Janet always managed to strike that happy medium of optimising general access to the Principal while ensuring he wasn鈥檛 overrun with requests. At the same time making you feel that attending to your issue was the most important task of her day even, or perhaps especially, when clearly it wasn鈥檛.
