Congratulations to , PhD student, who won 2nd prize in a poster competition at the OIE Global Conference on Biological Threat Reduction, which recently took place in Paris.

Peter's poster focused on the current twinning initiative between the Royal Veterinary College, London (RVC) and Jordan University of Science and Technology, Irbid (JUST) which represents one of the very first examples of such a relationship and seeks to establish the provision of state-of-the-art veterinary public health training in the Middle East and Arab World.  The project began in January 2015, with funding for an initial three year period, and will follow a series of seven objectives running through undergraduate, postgraduate and professional levels, which together seek to achieve biological threat reduction in the Middle East through:

1) Building improved capacity for biosafety, biosecurity, modern diagnostics and disease surveillance,

2) Improved preparedness for dealing with disease outbreaks,

3) Development of strong ethical research paradigms and 4) Effective control over ‘dual use’ pathogen research.!
