The Royal Veterinary College (RVC) is hosting the 30th General Assembly of the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education (EAEVE), the accreditation authority for veterinary education establishments in Europe.

The mission of the EAEVE is to evaluate, promote and develop the quality of veterinary medicine educational establishments and their teaching within Europe, including, but not limited to, member states of the European Union.

It is the first time the ºÚÁÏÉç has hosted the EAEVE General Assembly, which also welcomes senior veterinary academics and regulatory officials from around the world. The event spans the 18th and 19th of May and includes sessions at both the Camden campus of the ºÚÁÏÉç and the Hawkshead site in Hertfordshire.

This year marks the 225th anniversary of the ºÚÁÏÉç being established and the ºÚÁÏÉç has had a number of events honouring pioneers from the institution who established and progressed the veterinary profession in the UK. Therefore it is fitting to be hosting an EAEVE event focusing on skills required by modern vets and ways of further progressing veterinary education.

The two-day event will commence with the EAEVE Annual General Assembly and on the second day, the Educational Symposium will focus on competence-based training and assessment including presentations by speakers from as far afield as Japan, Norway and Gran Canaria.

Commenting on the General Assembly coming to the ºÚÁÏÉç, ºÚÁÏÉç Principal Stuart Reid said: “The ºÚÁÏÉç is delighted to host the EAEVE 30th General Assembly at each of our campuses. As the only pan-European professional accreditation organisation, the 200 delegates of EAEVE represent the veterinary schools of the continent and we are honoured to receive these colleagues.

“The ºÚÁÏÉç welcomes the visitors and restates its commitment to international inclusivity in animal health and welfare and its mission as a global force in veterinary education and science.”

As well as ensuring veterinarians are trained to the highest standard across Europe, EAEVE has the objective of reinforcing cooperation between member establishments and acts as a forum for discussion in order to improve and harmonise veterinary education. It also facilitates information exchange, staff exchange, student exchange and teaching materials exchange between members.

The ºÚÁÏÉç, which was the first veterinary school in the English-speaking world, is committed to working closely with institutions across the EU after Brexit, just as it currently collaborates with veterinary schools outside of the EU. With animal health interconnected with human health, and these and the research underpinning them being global in nature, the ºÚÁÏÉç always has been, and continues to be, global in its outlook.
